Monday Motivation: Clean, Reorganize and Refresh my Home Gym With Me
Happy Monday my lovelies! Let’s use this Motivation Monday as a fresh start to the week and get planning. This post might motivate you to do your workout today, or maybe to re-organize, or clean and refresh a space in your home. Take it as you wish! Either way, something’s been sitting on your plate for a while that needs a plan. Monday is a great day to build your to-do list and set yourself up for success this weekend. If there’s a space you’ve been waiting to organize, clean or refresh, today is your day to sit and make your list of action items on how to get your project done.
I love Mondays because they’ve always been productive for me - but working a corporate 9-5 job makes it impossible to complete any home projects on a Monday. Instead, I use my Mondays to plan what I’ll organize on my next upcoming day off. Typically, that would be the weekend for me. So, last week, I got to planning how I would clean, organize and refresh my home gym. Made a few Amazon purchases during the week and got to my action plan!
TO-DO
Clean home gym equipment
Remove equipment from room
Clean room
Lay down new mats
Place equipment back in the room
Organize the space
I like to divide my plan into literal baby steps - it helps me get an idea of how much time I need to dedicate to each task, and how much of my day the plan will take up. This helps me stay organized and tackle as many projects as I can on my planned day.

I started slowly creating my home gym when the pandemic literally shut the entire world down. It was a scary time, we didn’t know what was happening. All I knew was my gym was shutting down, and my progress would shut down along with it if I didn’t continue working out at home. Even still, buying items for my gym slowly, I always did lots of research to find the affordable options with the best reviews. I’m here to share my top home gym finds that have really elevated this space for me. With that being said, here’s how I made myself an affordable home gym to stay on top of my fitness goals without a gym membership.
First thing’s first, if I was going to create a home gym in my extra basement bedroom, I needed to protect the floors from any potential equipment damage. If you’re looking for exercise mats, or even playroom mats, I highly recommend the ProSourceFit Extra Thick Puzzle Mats. A pack of 6 tiles covers 24 square feet. These babies have proven both durable, and comfortable in the last 4 years, so I’ve recently purchased 2 more packs of 6 to fit the whole gym area as part of my refreshing the space. Even with lots of use and heavy equipment on them, they’re still in great shape. They’re comfortable enough to lie down on while exercising and I credit that to the fact that they are extra thick at ¾ of an inch. They look like this:
Now that my floors are protected, it’s time to get some equipment! The essentials I needed are a few different weights, and a bench for different workout options. For the weights, I settled on adjustable dumbbells and a barbell because it was the best bang for my buck. I got a lot of weighted plates and two different ways to use them.
The Adjustable Barbell is also padded which makes it great for hip thrusts or any exercise where the bar rests on my shoulders. The one I’ve linked here has a similar function to mine (currently unavailable), where you can change up the weights and the bar to accommodate the workout you’re doing. This equipment works great to avoid having to screw/unscrew the barbell every time you want to change from a dumbbell to a barbell exercise. If it saves you time, remember it also saves you money!
Lastly, I needed somewhere to sit for my exercises, but I also wanted something multi-functional that can workout different muscle groups. This Foldable Weight Bench has 7 different levels to accommodate many different workouts, whether it’s for weight lifting, support, or an ab workout. I found this bench sturdy enough to support my routine and add some versatility to it at the same time.
Finally, I added a mirror to help make sure I’m keeping my form throughout my exercises. This weekend, I redid my space by adding extra mats and reorganizing the layout a little bit to make it more functional. Not a significant change, but after all, it was just a refresh! Here’s the before and after. I also posted the entire process of completing my TO-DO List here.
