Make Your Pinterest Pantry a Reality...

Happy Monday my lovelies! We’re a little later than usual today with our blog post, but we made it! It’s ¾ of the way through April and spring is officially making its appearance. Yes, spring cleaning is now looming over all of us... But fear not - next week I’m coming to you with a breakdown of spring cleaning to help you tackle it all in 1-2 weekends. It’s all about planning, being realistic with your time, and getting into the groove of it. I can’t wait to share my tips with you.

I’ll be honest, the only thing I’ve spring-cleaned this week was my pantry. I basically cleaned it out, reorganized it, and labeled everything for that Pinterest-perfect pantry aesthetic. Bear with me, I’m doing one shelf at a time here. But I’m here to rave about my absolute favourite storage containers that I’ve had for 3 years now. I present to you my pantry staple: OXO Good Grips Food Storage Containers.

Why I love them…

Variety - There are so many different sizes and heights that you can basically fit any kind of food into it, including some difficult ones to store like spaghetti. I also found although the containers do not take up a lot of space, the different variety of sizes allows you to decant quite a bit into it, without having the leftover food taking space in another cabinet. If you strategically plan what’s in each container you can definitely maximize this feature. Also, if you're looking to start with a smaller bundle, they have the OXO 5-pack Food Storage Containers at a very reasonable price!

Fresh - Since I’ve had these containers, I’ve never had any food spoilage in this pantry. We all know how long some of our food can sit in the pantry, partly why I did a little re-organization here. There’s nothing worse than going to grab an ingredient that you have to use for a recipe and realize it’s now rancid and virtually unusable. I know it’s happened to you. Don’t lie.

Efficient - If you know me by now, you know I’m all about efficiency. Tell me something is easy to store, and I’m here for it. These containers are easily stackable and are all square or rectangle, so they fit seamlessly beside each other. This keeps the space looking so aesthetically pleasing!

Multi-Purpose - You can use these containers to store food, but you can also use these containers to organize any other part of your home. Your garage, your art room, your washroom... The possibilities are truly endless! We always love ourselves a multi-purpose feature here.

Durable - I’ve had these containers for so long now and I’m a big kitchen user... I’ve definitely dinged some of these containers a few times. I’m happy to report that even in my clumsiness they are still in mint condition after 3 years of consistent dinging. Could not ask for better!

Easy to Clean - Not only are they BPA-free, they’re also top-rack dishwasher-safe. That means easy cleaning for everyone! No further comments, your honour. Speaking of clean, I've never had any pest issues here... No ants in the pantry with the use of these containers, even with all that sugar. The containers are containing.

Bonus Buy - Purchased these adorable Black Chalkboard Labels (complete with the white chalk marker) to identify each container. I love these because you can reuse them by wiping them clean and re-writing them. Even if you don't need the containers, you need these labels. I think I’ll go label everything in my house now. BRB.

Here’s a photo showing the different container sizes and how I stacked them:

And yes, I’m also here with the CONS, because we don’t gate-keep in this community. I’m here to spill the beans, literally…

  • Spillage: Although the containers keep everything fresh in my experience so far and are sealed enough to keep critters out, the pop-lock lids are not AIRTIGHT. Beware of picking up your containers from the lid, you will drop the container and spill whatever is inside. Like I said, I literally spilled the beans.

  • Cost: I won’t lie and say these are affordable - they’re definitely on the pricier end for food containers. Personally, the pros outweigh the cons enough for me that made it worth the price. At $169.99 for 10 containers, they come in at a whopping $16.99 per container. Yikes! I would keep an eye out for specials. Amazon has the OXO Containers at 30% off right now, saving you $50. Subject to change, so score this deal while it’s hot!

  • Number of containers: This could be a personal thing, but I needed 2 sets of these containers to properly store my food. This all really depends on how much food you have in your pantry. It was a con for me, but may not necessarily be one for you!

Ahhh, so satisfying. It’s not spring cleaning, but it’s close enough for now! Stay tuned for next week’s post on how to organize your spring cleaning list to get it done as efficiently as possible. Until next time…

Love, Annamaria
